A
argueemnet from a Harry Potter Fan - This Article has been written by James - Underwaterdog lords and ladies, According to the unaccountably strong following you have gathered of illiterate urchins and people with no idea of literacy, you hate Harry Potter? Yet why do your follow this ridiculous line of belief, you must be pretty intrepid, stupidly so, to go up against the Potter crowd. Why display hate about a story you could so easily overlook? Why display hate about merchandise your eyes can sail past? There is no point to this rather comical negative approach. Harry Potter has opened the minds of young people everywhere! Instead of computer-adoring nerds and potato couches the simple yet advanced language of Rowling is enhancing the minds of those that can’t read the front pages, and overall enhancing the literacy rate of our country, one of the major factors in increasing our national Index Rating. The use of violence in the storyline, and the influence it is supposedly having on our children is utter nonsense. Why shield our children from a bit of tension and dishonour? Were you shielded from an imaginary flesh-eating house-sized spider myth when you were a child? Our children need to grow up in a world of timid violence, otherwise we will create a nation of arrogant teenagers who wouldn’t be able to bare a PG film and would most certainly not have the stomach for what awaits them socially, personally and economically in the future. Potter deals with these 3 important modules of life, quietly yet surely. Children have learnt money does not bring happiness, neither does fame – isn’t this a good approach to life? So what if Harry Potter is merchandised... we must be aware that this is not a direct influence of J K Rowling. It’s no use directly attacking their works when the real ‘evil’ people who are trying to cash in on the project are the major developers Rowling has no control over. You must also count in the economic factor this merchandise has caused, more people are spending money, stocks are rising and it is benefiting our economy. I’m not directly sure how sales of a book / merchandise would affect the economy, but it cannot be bad. Wizardry is also classed as an Anti-biblical act. Which audience is Harry potter aimed at? How many of these young people actually believe in the church? So it plays an important role in the minds of those we class as "socially detached"; but the children of our modern age don’t bother with the church, they scorn its stupidity and irrelevance. Scientists uncover new evidence every day to doubt its credibility, so it’s not exactly a strong influence. The story also, apparently has a condescending attitude towards the ordinary people [muggles], during my analysis of the texts I could find no evidence of this. The normal people are going about their day to day business, and the only references are to apparently praise their communications systems, which the wizards don’t have the intelligence to understand. Surely this is a negative approach to the way wizards rely on magic, and if it were removed, the problems they would be faced with? There you are. The evidence underwaterdog.co.uk has put forward for the anti-potter issue is nothing but hearsay. You can’t doubt an author who has raised herself by standards alone up the great monolith of fiction, to join Tolkien / Pratchett and the Grim Brothers on their worthy pedestal. |
